Everyone has dealt with a situation as a customer that has been more than frustrating, but as business owners and entrepreneurs, we have to look at the situation from both sides of the spectrum.

One negative statement, whether you meant it in a nice, positive way or not, can cause loyalty loss from a customer faster than you may think. Even when you’re speaking with employees as a business owner, it’s important to come into situations, good or bad, with a positive mindset. This will not only help you choose your words carefully, but you’ll be able to strengthen relationships by staying positive.

As a customer and employee, it’s frustrating to hear negative phrases, such as “We can’t do that,” or “It’s not that important.” Customers want to feel like their needs are a priority just as much as employees want to feel like their ideas are important.

If your business truly can’t do something for a customer, instead of telling them directly that you can’t do it, try turning the phrase around and let them know that it’s a possibility, or “We’ll see what we can do.”
